About Me:

Yihang Jiang is a sixth-year PhD candidate in the BIG IDEAs Lab at Duke University, where he focuses on computer vision–based heart rate detection. He earned his Bachelor of Computer Science from Huazhong University of Science and Technology and brings a strong computational perspective to non-contact physiological monitoring. His research centers on remote photoplethysmography (rPPG), developing methods to extract accurate heart rate signals from video data and expanding the possibilities of camera-based health sensing.

Yihang considers eventDTW one of his proudest technical achievements, reflecting his interest in advancing signal alignment and analysis methods. Inspired by computer vision pioneer Kaiming He, he approaches research with both precision and forward-thinking innovation. Though he doesn’t rely on coffee or tea to power his work, he does appreciate his Apple Watch as a reliable tool for recording running tracks and staying active.

Outside the lab, Yihang can most likely be found at the airport. A licensed pilot and retired graduate president of the Duke Aviators, he brings the same discipline and situational awareness from aviation into his research. When working through data, Show Lo often sets the soundtrack. Zaxby’s tops his comfort food list, and he lives by the advice to live in the moment and have no regrets. One day, he hopes to fly along the Hudson Corridor, combining his passion for aviation with a view few get to experience.
