About Me:

Hayoung Jeong is a fourth-year PhD candidate in the BIG IDEAs Lab at Duke University, where she focuses on discovering patterns of physical activity behaviors through the lens of data science and engineering. She earned both her B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Her interests span temporal pattern discovery from longitudinal observational studies, causal inference, and the role of social determinants of health in shaping behavior and outcomes.

Hayoung’s research explores how movement patterns interact with the environments and systems around us. Her main projects include discovering physical activity patterns and their associations with health and addressing wearable data missingness through the FOMO project. Through rigorous analysis and thoughtful inquiry, Hayoung continues to uncover patterns that help us better understand, and ultimately improve, health behaviors at scale. Outside the lab, she can most likely be found at home watching crime documentaries or cheering on Duke basketball.
