About Me:

Ella Etchandy is an undergraduate student and mentee in the BIG IDEAs Lab at Duke University. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering with a Certificate in Innovation and Entrepreneurship and focuses on physical activity behavior analysis through wearable data. Ella is currently working under Hayoung Jeong to develop algorithms that detect night shift workers based on physical activity patterns, with the broader goal of combining wearable hardware and machine learning to enable more personalized and actionable health insights.

Outside the lab, she enjoys trying new restaurants, reading, long walks, pilates, and spending time with friends. Fun fact: she streamed over 10,000 minutes of podcasts last year and over 50,000 minutes of Taylor Swift. Fueled by americanos with almond milk and cinnamon and inspired by Rosalind Franklin, Ella brings focus and drive to her work. Guided by the advice, “Surround yourself with people who push you to be a better version of yourself,” she celebrates wins with a great coffee, meal, or time under the sun, finds comfort in her grandmother’s Korean cooking, and hopes to travel to as many countries as possible.
