About Me:
Arian Ghaedi is a first-year PhD student in the BIG IDEAs Lab at Duke University, where he focuses on advancing continuous, non-invasive glucose monitoring through optical sensing technologies. He earned a Master of Research in Medical Device Design and Entrepreneurship from Imperial College London and a Bachelor of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering from City University of London. His research interests centre on applying existing biomarkers in novel ways to better track health, extracting meaningful physiological signals from wearable device data, and developing digital health technologies that can help prevent chronic disease.
Arian's work is driven by a long-term vision of making glucose monitoring accessible, continuous, and fully non-invasive.
A fan of the Oura Ring for its simplicity and elegant design, Arian fuels his research days with espresso and often works to the sound of rain rather than music. Outside the lab, he enjoys playing tennis and can frequently be found discussing wearable technologies, physiological monitoring, and non-invasive glucose measurement with fellow scientists and researchers. He also has a creative side, painting acrylic landscapes and portraits in a distinctive impasto style, and celebrates wins with a cheeseburger.
Arian's personal philosophy: "Find something you enjoy, something that seems like work to others but is like music or art to you, and get so good at it that it becomes unreasonable for you not to succeed, and use that success to help your fellow human beings.” One day, he hopes to help develop the world's first elegantly engineered, clinically accurate non-invasive continuous glucose monitor, bringing medical grade metabolic insights to millions and helping shift wearable devices from wellness tools toward transformative healthcare technologies.
